I read an article about how airlines will be busier than ever this summer, as more people are actually taking advantage of summer vacation time (and a decent economy). Combine this with recently hearing from a few different friends who are taking fabulous beach vacations in the coming weeks, and I’m itching to pack a suitcase filled with nothing but swimwear, coverups, and a couple sundresses. But who am I kidding, I think this happens every year around this time. It’s that “school’s out for the summer” vacay itch, you know?
If you’re planning a tropical beach vacation this summer — or if you just want to roll around your city and pretend you’re at a tropical beach, like I’ll be doing — you’re in luck. There’s a trend for that! Because as you may have noticed, the palm print has exploded onto the scene. Ok, actually, this whimsical little print has been a summer/beach time staple for ages. I know this only because I had a palm print tote from J.Crew that I bought in college circa 2005, which met a tragic end when I left it in the back of a cab that was dropping me and a bunch of friends off at a cruise ship terminal at the start of Spring Break our senior year (further details: the most perfect, sturdy pool/beach tote ever; had filled it with contraband bottles of wine; still upset about it to this day; gained at least 5 lbs on that cruise; trip photos not forthcoming). Regardless of its history, I’m enjoying the wild palm prints on everything from phone cases to shoes to pants. Is this trend something you’ll be donning this summer?
