I’m Loving…

(secondary working title: "Get in my cart, now.")

I realize I’m a walking cliché over here, but I’m ready for fall. There, I said it. I was talking to a client last week and she has a theory that people who grew up on the East Coast (where school often started later, in September) definitely do not hit August and begin dreaming of autumn. Who can blame them? Fall means the cold winter months are around the corner, so it makes sense that one would want to savor the warmth.

For me, growing up in Texas, August was back to school time. So in addition to being completely over 100 degree temps, August also meant shopping for new clothes for the season ahead. Maybe that’s why autumn always feels more like the new year to me than January does. When you’re young, the new school year meant a chance to start over, to begin anew, to come back different and perhaps even reinvent yourself. As an adult, it still feels the same in a lot of ways. There’s a shift in the light, in the fabrics we wrap ourselves up in, and (I find) who we want to connect with, too. I love this energy about the fall.

It should come as no surprise then, about this time every year, I tend to do a lot of shopping. In SF, autumn can mean some of our warmest months (it really just depends on the year), so it’s a perfect time to stock up on warm weather duds that are on sale, while also perusing cool weather gear to wear on foggy days. I don’t know if you heard, but the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale was on recently (hahaha, just kidding, OF COURSE YOU HEARD), and I completely avoided the whole thing. Well, truthfully, there were two things I wanted, and by the time the sale opened to the public, both were sold out, so I gave up until this past Sunday afternoon. Pickings were slim, man. But it had been a while since I’d been on any sort of clothing shopping spree, so off I went to some of my other favorite online shops. Found? This tank top from J.Crew that really reads as more of a flutter sleeve tee. Jury’s out on how the tiered pleats would look on someone with bigger boobs, but man is it cute online. Has anyone ordered this yet?

Also found? Nordstrom Rack. Yeah, I realize you probably have one in some strip mall near you. Perhaps you avoid it like the plague, as I do. Multiple experiences at that store in my 20s taught me that the hunt was long and arduous, typically with very little to show for it. Or maybe this is why I enjoy online shopping so much more — I can’t be bothered with sorting through racks and racks of disorganized clothing. I don’t even know how I ended up on their site on Sunday, but can I just tell you how pleasantly surprised I was? It was seriously good, you guys. Stuart Weitzman booties that are 50% off. Current Joie footwear, like these tangerine hued slides, all ranging from 50-80% off (seriously!). I’ve been looking for a dressier cropped jacket to wear with denim on Friday night dates and the like (one that I’d recently spotted was one of my Anniversary Sale misses). I was consoled by this Rebecca Taylor one that I scored for $169; it was originally $450. I’ve noticed that Nordstrom Rack seems to change prices daily, so the price has hopped up to $210 (sorry for driving demand on it, kids). Keep an eye on it if you like it; it might drop back down again. If you want to shop their site, my suggestion is to make heavy use of the filters, not just for your sizing, but also checking off brands you know and like. It made quick work of finding pieces I actually loved, even recognized, and wanted to buy!

Have you gotten into the whole bodysuit thing? I remember the first time I came across one was during a sleepover with a girl who lived on my street. We must’ve been 8 or 9. I recall being confused when we were changing clothes and I realized she was wearing a bodysuit. So, you have to unbutton that thing every time you go to the bathroom? was my pre-pubescent question; in an unsurprising turn of events, my 33 year old self has the same thought. But, the ease of wear with a dizzying number of available denim styles has won me over, so I ordered this Free People one for $25. I’ll report back. Either way, not spending a ton of cash on a trend is always a win in my book.

I’ve been eyeing so many pieces from AYR for, like, ever now. There’s this gorgeous silk tank, oh, and this one too. I’m also extremely intrigued by these silk tie-waist pants, not least because the product copy is perfectly written. I would likely ignore the care instructions and steam or gently hand wash them on my own (shh, don’t tell), eliminating the “who wants to dry clean silk pants all the time?” conundrum. They’re still a bit expensive, but man if they wouldn’t be easy to wear to work on the reg.

What about you? Do you feel the same about this time of year, or do you dread the whole summer-to-autumn transition? Any good shopping finds lately? Set me straight, below.

I love bodysuits! Thong type only lol any sort of visible panty line just bothers me. AYR has some beautiful clothing but I’ve yet to purchase from them. Any idea how the quality is?

I’ve heard AYR’s quality is really good! Especially the denim — have heard great things there. I’m hoping to get one of those silk tops soon and I’ll report back if/when I do!

Victoria – There is a 3/4 sleeve version of the Rebecca Taylor jacket that is $169 but it’s in limited sizes. https://www.nordstromrack.com/shop/product/1961663/rebecca-taylor-zip-front-boucle-tweed-jacket?color=NAVY

Here’s what’s so weird: mine is full length sleeve, and cost $169! And when I wrote the post I searched and searched (even combing through all Rebecca Taylor jackets that were available) and there was nothing for $169! So I’m not sure if one in a size 10 came back to them or what. Either way, the full length version is very cute — I just got it in the mail yesterday!

I love the frilly tank top from J. Crew. It’s such a beautiful shade of blue. I’m also curious if it’s a style that will work on people with bigger boobs, so please do report back!

It just went on sale and you can use their Labor Day discount code to take an extra 30% off! I never managed to get it before, but I’m going to hop into their store this weekend and try it on!
