Week/End

end of summer

Well, here we are at Labor Day weekend. Can you believe it? Any big plans for the long weekend ahead? We’re getting in lots of good beach time (naturally) with a trip down to Half Moon Bay tomorrow and then an afternoon at Ocean Beach with a bunch of friends on Sunday! Lucy’s stoked. I also plan on getting some rest, hitting the gym, and enjoying my day off on Monday as much as possible. I wasn’t feeling my best this past week and realized that my weak little immune system was probably the result of running on fumes as of late…it’s time to take a breather, rest, and relax. I hope you get in some naps, a glass of wine, and good times with friends and family this weekend! On to links —

THIS SHOULD BE GOOD: I meant to share this earlier, but did you hear that Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer are writing a movie together? Oh, to be in on those brainstorming sessions…

YOU HAVE A TWIN: I can’t count how many times I’ve been told this throughout my life. Kind of interesting to think about what it would be like to actually meet your real life doppelganger. A bunch of people did from the site Twin Strangers. Crazy, huh?

OMMMM: Erin put together a great, easily digestible guide about how to meditate if you’re a beginner. It’s true what she says: start with just a few minutes and work your way up!

OOH LA LA: Watch Bradley Cooper and a whole bunch of other celebs speak second (and even third and fourth) languages. Did you know all these people spoke multiple languages?

WE GET IT, J.K. ROWLING: Have you ever noticed that when the Harry Potter author announces or tweets anything new about the series, it makes major news headlines? Here’s an interesting piece about why it might work against the magic of the series, in the long run. I have to say I kind of agree.

YOU’RE SO EMOTIONAL!: And maybe that’s a good thing. I mentioned to a friend of mine that I was downloading the latest Brené Brown book (yet to dive into it), and in return, she sent me this article on why millennials have a hard time being vulnerable. It dovetailed nicely to this piece on why suppressing your feelings might make you less likeable to others.

“GOOGLE TOOK SOMETHING WE TRUSTED AND FILED OFF ITS DIGNITY”: Did you have as strong a reaction to the new Google logo this week?

A HISTORY OF CHAMBRAY: Did you know it’s where the term “blue collar job” comes from? This, and other thoughts on its evolution from uniform to style must-have.

A NOTE ON THE SURVEY: Just a little administrative note to let you know I will be closing the survey on how you handle finances with your significant other this coming Monday night, at midnight Pacific time. I planned on keeping it open longer, but over 350 people have already responded! That’s quite a bit of data, and I figure enough to get a good diversity of responses, so in the interest of not being up to my ears in it, I’m closing it earlier than anticipated. So get your response in now if you want to be a part of it!

Does closing the survey early mean we get to see the results sooner? ;) I sure hope! We’re heading to Dallas for the long weekend to visit my Dad’s side of the family. I can’t wait for one more weekend by the pool before we dive headfirst into all things fall/holiday. Enjoy your time at the beach!
