Week/End

weekend

THE END OF AVOCADO TOAST?: A fantastic piece about the future of avocados (mostly in trouble because of the California drought…).

SUMMER LINENS: Everlane just released a collection of linen tees, perfect for summer. I snagged a long sleeve version (for summer in San Francisco, after all), and also happen to think this dark pacific blue color is just beautiful!

SIMPLE, BUT SIGNIFICANT: I enjoyed looking through these illustrations of all the women Don Draper has slept with throughout the entire Mad Men series. I had forgotten about half of them! Are you watching the final episodes? Think this theory has any credence?

CARROTS!: I can’t tell you how many times I watched Anne of Green Gables growing up. This article on the passing of Jonathan Crombie (who played the beloved Gilbert Blythe) was so spot on…and made me want to watch the entire series again.

CAPTURING RAIN: A truly wonderful article about “making perfume from the rain.” No, really! One Indian village distills the scent of rain into a fragrance — this is a must read if you enjoy the art of perfumery.

ON BLOGGING: Tristan wrote a great post about blogs, bloggers, and blogging in general, and I enjoyed reading the conversation she got started in the comments. Blog evolution is such a weird, interesting thing!

MY FAVORITE ROOM: A great round up of 18 architects and interiors designers’ favorite rooms of all time. I love reading the reasons as to why they were so memorable to the people interviewed.

TUMMY BUGS: Wait, it’s not as gross as it sounds. This was a fascinating (though not altogether unsurprising) article I read this week about current research on good gut bacteria, why we’re so good at inadvertently killing it off, and how we can eat to get it back and avoid disease. #moreveggiesplease

TELL ME SOMETHING: I loved these question prompts one writer created in the name of “killing small talk.” In fact, maybe I’ll ask some of them here on the blog… At any rate, I thought these were interesting questions to think through not only for yourself, but for people you’re close to (or want to become closer to).

Am I alone in my disbelief that next week is the last week of April? I had a conversation with someone this week about something that happened in 2008. Then I said to her, “Doesn’t 2008 feel like it was just a couple years ago? And not SEVEN??” Let me preemptively tell you all Happy Thanksgiving, because that is the speed of this year.

I know things have been a bit quiet around here. Chalk it up to still working on getting settled and finding a routine, while also trying to catch up on live design projects before other projects begin. I’m still here and kicking, and with any luck, will actually have some recipes and looks at our new apartment soon-ish. Decorating is both the most fun and most torturous thing ever. You find the perfect piece, but it won’t fit, or it’s too expensive, or it’s out of stock. Joe and I both feel like we’re at a point where we don’t want to buy things just because it’s convenient — we’re really trying to find pieces we both love and would want to live with for a long time. It takes a lot longer, and the house feels a little undone, but when you find that perfect item, it makes the wait so worth it.

This weekend is packed for me! We’re taking Lucy in for a doctor’s appointment today to meet her new neurologist (one of those not-so-fun but very necessary things). Later, I’m heading to the East Bay to meet up with a friend and check out new-to-me local fragrance brand Pinrose. Sunday will be filled with brunch, a family dinner, and trying to run some errands in preparation for a big Cinco de Mayo/housewarming party we’re hosting next weekend! I’m DIYing this big photo booth backdrop that I can’t wait to show you. What about you, any fun plans?

Hope you guys have a fab weekend! Enjoy it.

Also fascinated by this NY Mag article…thanks for sharing!! So many Americans go on antibiotics for every little thing that just wreak havoc on the gut; it can be hard to un-do all of that.

We moved all of our stuff to Boston this past weekend and bought some new furniture. Still in need of a coffee table and area rug, but the coffee table we’ve been dreaming of may not fit the space so we’re going to wait until we are back there in June before making the purchase. This whole process has been annoying but exciting and I’m looking forward to being done soon! Downsizing from 750sqft to 480 was not as bad as I thought it would be, but this gorgeous couch we found (floor sample! Super sale!) at Arhaus was too long to get through doorways/turns. I’ve enjoyed following along your moving adventure because it makes me feel a little less alone. Looking forward to seeing your big reveal!
