Week/End

weekend

SALE ALERT!: Remember those jeans I couldn’t shut up about in this post? They’re currently part of Shopbop’s Big Event sale — it’s a tiered sale, so if you spend $250, you get 15% off your entire purchase, then the savings scale up from there. Use the code BIGEVENT15 to get the savings, but hurry, because the sale ends tomorrow (3/7) at midnight! I took advantage of it this week and bought another pair of those J Brand jeans (they really were that good, y’all), as well as these Sam Edelman booties that I’ve been eyeing forever. I’ll basically wear them year round in San Francisco.

YES, I JUST SAID SAN FRANCISCO: If you follow me on Instagram, you might’ve seen the big news. Joe and I are moving back to SF at the end of this month! I have been working on a post all about the when and why for days now. I have a lot to tell, but it’s almost hard to figure out how to tell it. Look for that early next week — I’m forcing myself to get it all out this weekend! We’re very excited.

OPTING OUT: I read this essay earlier in the week about opting out of motherhood and haven’t been able to get it out of my mind. If you’ve ever been in the camp of wondering if you wanted to have kids, you’ll enjoy this.

DECORATING INSPIRATION: Moving (to a 6th apartment in 5 years. Send help.) means we get to decorate again! We’re probably keeping much of our furniture and only adding a few new pieces, but this week, Tobe’s beautiful home tour on Design*Sponge got me inspired. Her home is so colorful, feels lived in, and has lots of brass. What’s not to love?

ROSE & IVY: I didn’t get to tell you last week, so I’m a bit late here, but to put it on your radar, the new quarterly issue of Rose & Ivy has been released. Remember when I talked about it here? Alison has done another gorgeous job of putting together what’s very obviously a labor of love (and good taste). I know you will enjoy browsing through this!

DON’T ASK, JUST DO: Every single one of these suggestions for how to truly be there for friends in need is on point. Bookmark this one, and then live by it.

OR ON FLEEK: I almost wrote “on fleek” at the end of the first sentence in the previous bullet, which led me to Googling where the hell that phrase came from and how it wormed its way into my vernacular. Here, a brief history.

LIKE RAYS OF SPRING SUNSHINE: I love this simple DIY for copper and white succulent planters! Something to try if you’re feeling crafty this spring (it’s super easy, too).

It snowed in New York twice this week, and some days, it honestly feels like winter will never end. It was fun for two seasons, but I’m glad I’ll never have to put up with an east coast winter again! There has been so much going on the last two weeks I don’t even know where to begin. We basically decided we were moving two Mondays ago, and in that time, listed our apartment in NY, rented a new one in SF, and hired movers (along with lots of other little moving-related tasks). It’s been crazy. More next week…

Until then, I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Hope you can find some quiet time this weekend, Victoria as I know you’ve mentioned things have been… hectic! But exciting, nonetheless! Wishing you the best. Can’t wait to hear more about your move!

OMG! I’m so happy for you. *just sent you a text* I’ll be missing you – but you moving makes me consider moving to warmer temps myself. This winter has been so brutal + I have nothing holding me here in NY anymore… we shall see. I know we’ll keep in touch!

I’m so excited for you and your move back to SF!

I also loved the “Opting out of Motherhood” piece, and would encourage you to read more of Meghan Daum’s essays. I think you’d especially relate to her famous piece about choosing to move away from NYC from her book “My Misspent Youth”.

I’m excited to learn more about your decision to move back to SFO. NYC is losing a good one though.

I can’t WAIT for that post! I finally got to meet Tobe at an event a few weeks ago and she is the sweetest. I’ve been drooling over her home forever.

Wow! I am thrilled for you as it was clear that as much as you enjoyed aspects of New York, your heart was in San Francisco (apologies to Tony Bennett!) and it’s where you guys were meant to be. It’s certainly easy to lose your heart there–I lived in Russian Hill for three years post-college and it was a wonderful time in my life. Cheers to new beginnings with old friends you have there, and may the moving process be as painless as it can possibly be (gulp!).

I’m so happy for you! I bet you’re just itching to get out of NYC now that you’ve made your decision!

We’re also on the “get the hell out of NYC” movement! We’ve done five years, and we’re now on our way to Los Angeles!

Ironic that you mention “on fleek.” We JUST googled that last week because it’s been all over our YouTube channel. Then you have all the other new internet slang words like “shipping” (and no, not as in “shipping and handling”), “OTP” (one true pair), “GOALS” (this one is obvious), and “GOAT” (greatest of all time).

    Mind. Blown.

Thank you so much for the mention Victoria and your kind words, I really appreciate it:) xx

Yay!!! Onward and upward, my friend. So happy for you! And thank you for the very kind mention. You know I’ll happily come out to find you some SF brass anytime. ox

All the best for your move.

I have shared the article about being there for friends. It was a great read and very informative. I’m sometimes at a loss how to help friends cope and how to be there for them without being overbearing.

The “Opting Out of Motherhood” article was one I could relate to. I don’t want children.
