Week/End

happy weekend!

This week, y’all. My understanding is that Mercury is definitely in retrograde, and given my week, that certainly explains a lot. Did anyone else feel like this week was a bit nutty?

I didn’t have a ton of time to peruse the Internet for the usual Friday candy, but I did find three great pieces to share — plus, I wanted to alert you to a few good Columbus Day sales (does anyone have Monday off? What are you doing over the long weekend?). Here we go:

+ EVERLANE LOVE: If you’re a fan of the brand (who isn’t??), you’ll love this long piece on how Everlane’s head of Design, Petra Langerova, got her start in the fashion industry (from Gap to J.Crew, and beyond). And yes, in case you’re wondering, their fabulous bag collection is named after her. I really enjoyed learning more about how this company evolved, because I can definitely remember a time before she came on board. It was good back then; it’s even better now.

+ DON’T BE THAT GUY: …that leaves Yelp reviews for ridiculous things. This Kansas City restaurant fought back against a ludicrous yelp review, hilariously so. I can tell you from working in multiple retail and restaurant jobs that while service providers will do everything they can to accommodate you, the customer definitely isn’t always right.

+ WHAT WERE YOU DOING AT 19?: Because I certainly wasn’t writing patent applications. I absolutely loved reading this piece on Elizabeth Holmes, the 30-year old multi-billionaire who founded a healthcare company after dropping out of Stanford — a company that’s now poised to revolutionize the healthcare industry. The premise of the company is this: ever had blood drawn for various tests? It’s not the most fun thing, and it can take days to get lab results back. Elizabeth founded a company that discovered a way to run all the tests a doctor would ever need on a single drop of blood…with results back in four hours…for half the cost of traditional testing. It was fascinating to read her story, and how she’s quietly built a powerhouse company.

+ THREE DAY WEEKEND SALES: A couple good promo codes to make note of! J.Crew is offering 30% off full priced styles and 40% off final sale items with the code WEEKENDPLANS. I’ve been eyeing this cocoon coat (and have even tried it on in store — petite gals, definitely opt for the petite sizing on this one). Piperlime is offering 20% off select fall pieces with the code FALL20 — perfect if you want to splurge on a new pair of boots. Club Monaco is offering 30% off sale items and 40% off clearance items with the code FALLSALE (lots of sweaters in the mix!). And finally, I don’t know about you, but I’ve already begun thinking about holiday shopping. On my list this year is a specific type of sauté pan (random, I know), so I’m sending Joe a link to this sale at Williams Sonoma. A good opportunity to buy any cooking/entertaining related gifts for your loved ones, or to get ready for Thanksgiving!

That’s all I got, y’all. TGIF!! Hope you have a great weekend.

Mercury is definitely in retrograde and I got the full effect of it yesterday! Ugh. But I did find a hilariously entertaining guide to surviving it and hopefully it will help! Have a great weekend!
