november

This week I…

+ watched the documentary Blackfish — twice — on CNN. Have you seen it yet? I highly recommend you watch it.

+ really enjoyed and appreciated reading all of your comments on making friends. It’s nice to know we’re not alone! I’m taking Juliette’s advice and remembering to be patient.

+ had been looking for a basic, everyday tote to cart around town with me and was thrilled to find this one. I absolutely love it! Fits everything, looks clean, simple, and chic. Done and done.

+ was intrigued by the flower delivery service H. Bloom, which I learned about on Elizabeth’s blog. Do you always have fresh flowers in your house? I WISH I did!

+ am dying to go to this perfumerie after Grace got to experience it in Tulum.

+ discovered the shop Brika via this post on Archana’s blog. Cute stuff, no? I think I am already in gift idea mode for the holidays!

+ loved learning a little bit about the man behind some seriously iconic photographs — so pretty!

+ want to remind you that today’s the last day to get 25% off your order of $150+ at J.Crew (and free shipping too!). Shop to it.

This weekend is a special one. If writing “11.1.13” in the post title wasn’t weird enough, it’s even stranger to write that our 1-year wedding anniversary is on Sunday/Monday*. Can you believe it’s been a year? I won’t lie, even though this past year has been extraordinarily hard on our relationship at times, it’s also brought us much closer together. I happened to re-connect with an old college professor on Twitter this week, who reminded me that it’d been over a decade since his course…and when I expressed my incredulity to Joe, he was like, “What do you mean? It’s our 11 year anniversary this weekend!” It’s just hard to believe how quickly the time goes — and how much fun history gets created.

Anyhoo, we couldn’t get our shiz together and plan a city escape this weekend (we suck), so instead, we’ve made a few dinner reservations, are planning on picnicking in the park, doing some neighborhood exploring, and generally just unplugging a bit. I feel like maybe we’ll celebrate the first year properly once we also finally take that for realsies honeymoon in 2014 (do you see a pattern here? Oops.).

Gah, I really can’t believe it’s November. Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away!! I hope you guys enjoy the start of the month, and have a lovely weekend!

* Here’s the story: We were technically married on 11/3, but had our marriage license say 11/4, because that’s the anniversary of our first date — Nov. 4, 2002! In case you’re interested, wedding pics can be found here, with lots more photos and the backstory at the bottom of this post here.

Happy anniversary! And, hey, don’t feel bad about delaying plans for a vacation or honeymoon. It’s more fun to celebrate your relationship just because, anyway. :)

Happy 1 year! And don’t worry, you’re not alone – we didn’t take our real honeymoon (hopping around Spain) until a year and change after our wedding. Perhaps it’s a better way to go, separating the stress/excitement of a wedding from the stress/excitement of a big vacation?

Congrats! My anniversary is also 11/4, also 1 year! I’d love to know which restaurant you decide on… We chose Balthazar because it feels very classic NYC and we met here. Enjoy your weekend!
