New York has had a spate of beautiful, crisp, cool weather, and I think it’s been just the thing to re-energize my creative juices and inspiration. I’m totally serious. It’s like my entire body just perks up at cool temperatures. My skin has been looking better, I think more clearly, and yeah, okay, like 95% of my (formerly SF) wardrobe comes back into play. It’s exciting times, people.
The cooler temps have made me serious about wardrobe items I might want to get this fall. To me, autumn wardrobe pieces are things you wear over and over again, year after year, and many never go out of style (versus some of spring and summer’s light frocks). That’s what makes them feel so classic and treasured and homey, like re-discovering a book you love every year. There’s magic in finally being able to pull out a sweater you’ve owned and loved for half a decade, and worn through so many adventures.
This year’s list includes ankle boots (I really find I end up wearing boots year round!), a smaller handbag, a cape, a new coat (because I only have one or two that can even take me into December’s temps), a dark lip stain, a new sweater or two, and if I get really adventurous, some leather pants. This, in my mind, is a completely reasonable list, though I can already see Joe’s face were I to come home with a new pair of boots (“Don’t you already have ones exactly like that?” he’d ask, to which I’d say, “No, see, these are black with brown heels. Those are just brown.”)
What are you coveting this fall?
