The last few days have been lovely and warm in the afternoon. It’s like SF is giving it all it’s got to make us not want to move this weekend. “Don’t go!” it says, “I can try really hard to have good weather! See? Look! Sun!”
So I threw the city a bone and broke out some polka dot shorts I recently bought in anticipation of the hot Manhattan summer. Don’t tell New York that I let SF get the shorts first, ok?
Yesterday was as typical as any for a gal who’s working, cleaning out her apartment, and prepping to move cross country. Here are some snapshots:
I stopped by the art store to pick up a gift certificate/thank you gift. Do you find that art stores are totally dangerous impulse purchase zones? I do. Between all the lovely sketchbooks (that thick, luscious paper!), the spectrum of paint colors, and all the fun types of brushes, it’s a wonder I don’t walk out of there with the entire store. I have no skills in drawing or painting, but art stores make me yearn for elementary school craft time, just so I can play.
After the art store, I swung by the Palace Hotel to mail something at the UPS store (oddly enough, yes, there’s a UPS store in this swank hotel). I’ve been in the lobby of the Palace twice in the last week, which is twice more than I’ve been in it over the last seven years. I was kinda bummed I didn’t know how gorgeous it was before — check out that ceiling! The exterior of the hotel has all kinds of cool architectural details too. It almost reminded me of being in Paris (um, almost).
At home, Joe and I got busy creating lots more piles of trash and giveaway stuff. We have a charity coming by today to pick up all the things we want to donate (or didn’t have time to sell). Did I actually just show you a picture of some junk piled up in my apartment? Yes, because welcome to my life right now. Our house is a freaking disaster zone.
With the weather being so sunny, Joe and I walked over to a local Caribbean place. It’s a total hole in the wall; if you didn’t know it was there, you’d walk right past it. Once inside, you still wouldn’t know anything great is happening — it’s when you walk all the way to the back and arrive at a big outdoor patio that you realize what a gem this place is! Huge servings, reasonable prices, delish jerk chicken. Perfect in the summer!
I worked and sorted junk throughout the afternoon, and around 5pm, welcomed my friend Maryann to our (very messy) home. We all shared a bottle of sparkling wine, then headed to dinner at a local sushi joint. I adore their happy hour — everything on the menu with an asterisk is half off. You can’t beat it! It was so great to catch up and say goodbye to a dear friend before we leave this weekend.
