This week I…
+ want to say thank you for all the excitement and feedback on The B Bar announcement. We are SO excited to launch the shop and can’t wait to share more of what we’ve been working on. In the interim, be sure to follow The B Bar on Twitter and Facebook, where we’re sharing great articles, tips, and links to other need-to-know-about entrepreneurs and services.
+ had the world’s fastest trip to Ohio to check out Wendy’s headquarters, test kitchen, and to try a new sandwich they’re launching soon. It was quite a whirlwind! If you follow me on Instagram, you can see some behind the scenes shots from the visit. I’ll share more pics and my thoughts on the trip soon.
+ fell in love with this fantastic moisturizer, perfect for combo skin. I’m going to do a quick review of this and some other recent beauty finds (including the Korres primer!) next week hopefully!
+ have to apologize — something weird is going on with the blog’s RSS feed, so posts didn’t get pushed out to subscription services a couple of times. Can we just blame this all on Google Reader (or the disappearance thereof)?
+ have never been so happy to see Lucy as when I got home late Wednesday night (after a twelve hour trip back from the east coast, due to terrible flight delays). We had a major snuggle sesh.
+ am working for the weekend — when I plan on sleeping in and snuggling with Joe and Luce a lot (imagine it’s in a bed as glam as the one above).
So speaking of the whole RSS and Google Reader thang, you guys had one very resounding recommendation for where to read blogs:
The VAST majority of you said you had switched or were already using Bloglovin’. I must admit, it’s a service I had signed up for — mostly to manage the back end of my own blog being listed — but I’d never really explored it as a reader. It’s actually quite similar to Google Reader once you get everything all set up! I don’t love the pixelation and weird cropping of the lead photos, but hey, it works. I also can’t get mad at the one click import of all my blogs from Google Reader into the site, so it’s got that going for it. Bloglovin’ — check it out if you want to try a new blog reading service!
On Wednesday, before one of my flights home, I grabbed a copy of Harper’s Bazaar. I don’t think I’d looked at an issue since high school — seriously. As I flipped through, I felt like I’d been missing out on a huge amount of fantastic content, inspiration, and innovative and beautifully done layouts. The magazine felt so fresh to me, especially in the design department. It made me wonder — what other good magazines am I missing out on? The only magazine I read religiously is Vanity Fair. So I wanna know: what magazines do you love to read, and why? What do they offer over other magazines in the same category?
Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Congrats on making it to Friday — that trip to Ohio sounds super crazy but also so fun!

I used to read many of the fashion magazines back when I was modeling, mostly for inspiration for my photo shoots.
These days, I don’t really read magazines. The only one I subscribe to is O Magazine because I was briefly published in it a few years back (thank you, Twitter!) – :)
When I do take the time to read through the magazine, I enjoy it. They have so many tips for all aspects of life from fashion to health & beauty to relationships and it’s always empowering to women.

Aw.. I smiled over the snuggle sesh with Lucy.. I’m sure she was so happy to see you too!
Happy Weekend! : )

I did too :) It was such a lovely image – I imagined it would be the same (with my boyfriend) I unfortunately don’t have my dog at the moment! As for magazines, I picked up ‘Red’ the other day, I forget how good it is, I took 3 photos of some fashion items in a matter of minutes, I was then called because I was in a waiting room for my dentist!
I love traveling for the excuse of splurging on some of my favorite magazines! My top picks are always Shape (the healthy tips and tricks are helpful and doable), Glamour (I love the outfits put together and the mix of affordable and designer pieces), Conde Nast Traveler (because it inspires me to travel…everywhere!) and Vogue. Because its Vogue and the epitome of all things posh.
i can’t live without People StyleWatch. It offers SO much inspiration for me and I find myself highlighting something on almost every page. I also love that they feature fashion bloggers and have an approachable voice, along with some great deals for readers!

One of my favorite magazines is The Simple Things. It’s features articles relevant to seasons, amazing pictures, and it’s really a window into awesome people I would never have known about! A lot of the articles are other bloggers from the all over the world and they also feature a Collector’s series that’s always fun to browse. One gentleman collected vintage radios! It’s definitely one of my top 5! =)
That sounds like a great mag- I’m going to try and hunt that down this weekend!
I love a the layout of InStyle, the graphics in Glamour, the long reads in Elle magazine and the product round-ups in Lucky, but don’t underestimate the more family-oriented All You (even though I’m 27 with just a boyfriend and no kids). Hello coupons and 15-minute weeknight dinner ideas!
I’m a Vanity Fair reader too…I picked it up after you had written a couple times that you read it and I wondered what I was missing out on!
Also, I subscribe to Real Simple. It’s just a good all-around read. There’s always some neat tips/tricks for stuff, sometimes good app recommendations, home, fashion and food. I really recommend it.
Maybe this is the old-lady in me, but I REALLY like Real Simple. It has great ideas and simple uses for things you might not have thought of before. Also some easy recipes – but they look tasty.
I discovered Souvenir around Christmas and amongst other mags I had stocked up on for a nine hour flight home from ANC, it was the one I looked at most, hands down. It has beautiful ideas, detailed shots, and nothing feels contrived. I bit expensive-feeling at first, but I got over it. =)
I’m a religious Vanity Fair reader as I think it offers some of the best editorial — but that’s the journalism nerd in me! I’m really just obsessed with print magazines, I think they get pushed to the side these days, but the look of beautiful print images is so irreplaceable — I especially love Martha Stewart Living, Real Simple, Elle Decor, and my favorite since childhood — National Geographic.
I love Marie Claire. It’s a good mix of fashion, just a touch of fluffiness, & features on all sorts of women. I think that’s where they’re different because they always have a career feature/interview, have a true life story that is always fascinating, & a whole section on women’s issues around the world.
Wired! Love the graphic design and the articles!
I also love Clean Eating magazine for its recipes.
This is going to come as a big fat shocker coming from me but: Architectural Digest and House Beautiful! The first for incredibly inspirational and opulent homes and design and the other for super-fresh inspiration and fun articles and features.
I am, and always will be an avid magazine reader. I’ve been tempted to switch to the digital editions with the extra content, etc, etc but nothing compares to sitting at your favorite coffee shop and reading one of my 14 subscriptions.
Yes, 14. My absolute favorites are…
InStyle (clean pages with relatable content that isn’t over the top), Real Simple (the most amazing tips in every category, I swear), and Lucky (shopping, shopping, shopping!).
I tend to not like a publication that is too high fashion as it seems to be more about advertising than content. Just my thoughts!
Cheers to The B Bar announcement! Such a brilliant & inspiring venture. I’m such a supporter of helping people realize their dreams & passions too, let me know if you need help in any way.
ALWAYS pay it forward.
Xo!

I love Glamour- I feel like it’s the only magazine out there that truly encompasses all topics for us women!
I love Harper’s Bazaar I think it’s the oldest fashion magazine around. They have more fashion coverage than Vogue in my opinion.
I have been loving Harper’s Bazaar lately too. Such good fashion editorials. The Gentlewoman is also stellar! I am pretty much addicted to magazines. Can’t get enough glossies. xo
I read the magazine I work for and our competitors.
I also read Inc., Fast Company, House Beautiful, Smithsonian, and Lucky. I really like Lucky’s new direction.
I also subscribe to Marie Claire, but I’ve been a bit displeased with it in the past 5-6 months. I quit reading Harper’s Bazaar a couple years ago. I don’t really care for fashion editorials — rarely can it be translated to real life.
I just picked up my first issue of Vogue Living (Australia) and I’m pretty stoked about that! I used to love reading Self and other motiviational fitness mags, but the tips are always the same (eat healthy, exercise, blahblahblah). I do buy Vanity Fair when I’m at the airport though.
I’ve been smitten with Lonny mag these days. It has such a simple and beautiful layout. And I also agree with all the ladies that Real Simple is where it’s at. The styling is spot on and I have to admit I’m obsessed. Oh, and Domino, duh. I wish that one was published more often. It’s the best.
i am truly an avid magazine reader/purchaser! since i started living in italy, magazines are just the best way to keep me entertained on planes and from feeling homesick. i’ve gotten so many great ideas from the ones i love: everyday food, real simple, yoga journal, bon appetit, etc. that i keep a little folder with clippings handy in the kitchen.
My two favorite magazines are sort of opposite ends of the spectrum–Oxford American for their high caliber writing and thoughtful exploration of southern culture; and Lula for their *gorgeous* fashion photography and eccentric articles.

Being a Brit living in Texas, I get my fav British mag sent on an international subscription. It’s called Red magazine, my absolute treat! It’s very beautifully set out. I can send u a copy if you like!?
I also found, when I studied French at college that buying French vogue or Italian Vogue gave me new inspirations, even if I couldn’t understand it all, the pictures sure were pretty!!
Hi, my name is Miranda and I’m a magazine-aholic.
Seriously though, you should see my purse when I’m traveling. It’s like a newstand.
My favorite fashion magazine in InStyle – I think they mix middle and high end items well, and they style them in a way that I’d actually wear. I never really connect with the editorial stuff from mags like Elle and Vogue, it’s just too weird.
I also love Money magazine (finance nerd, it’s true) and Glamour. Glamour is the perfectly like magazine read, though I don’t always care for the styling in it.
