Major Alt FOMO

FOMO. Fear of missing out. Which is what I’ve currently self-diagnosed myself with, because the Altitude Summit kicks off today in Salt Lake City, and I’m not there. Actually, this condition is less FOMO and more a sense of longing because I KNOW that all the bloggers attending are going to have so. much. fun. Alt is basically like blog summer camp: four days of going to dinners, coffees, lunches, and cocktail parties with people who are a part of this amazing industry and have the same interests as you. Sounds like it’d be just awful, right?

Last year I put together a whole Mini-Alt series to run while I was at the conference, and in hindsight, it really was the next best thing if you couldn’t go. I was looking back at those posts earlier this week and thinking about a) how much changes in a year and b) how much stays the same. Because really, SO MUCH of the advice dispensed by the bloggers that participated in this series was spot on, and will be true in this industry always. So, to comfort myself and so that I can pretend like I’m at Alt, learning stuff, I thought I’d reshare some of those posts below, since I know a lot of you guys might not have seen these! Hopefully they’re helpful to you and are a quick cure-all to anyone else who experiences major Alt FOMO this week. A tip: ignore any tweets with the hashtag #altsummit. It’s been proven to worsen symptoms.

Ugh, me too! It was bad when I was in Sydney but at least then I had the excuse it was far too far away… now I’m living in San Francisco its even worse because its I actually *could* theoretically go to it!

I just signed up for a couple of the free Alt Channel classes to at least virtually be there. Perhaps we could form a mini Alt SF, find a cafe somewhere and tune in to the talks together?

I have FOMO at all of those– ALT Summit, Lucky FABB, IFB Conference. Every year I feel like I’m missing out on so much by not attending these. But I remember reading our Mini Alt Series last year and it was SO helpful! I was just envious reading everyone else’s recap posts, but yours taught me so much and were such a huge help. So thank you for reposting! :)

To this day, those are my favourite “how to” posts for blogging. and they really helped last year when my blog was just a wee little baby (now I consider it a moody toddler, for the record)

ALT sounds like a great conference, will have to remember for next year. (Hopefully)

I read your Alt Summit guide last year when I was thinking of starting a blog. Now, a year later, re-reading it as a blogger (even if it’s only been a few posts) is really helpful. Thanks!
