This week I…

+ got a work related mani/pedi. I’m participating in the runway show of The Lab Event tomorrow (cue nerves), and couldn’t have the talons looking unkempt. If you’re an SF area soon-to-be bride, I hope to see you there!

+ launched a simple new blog design for Alyssa at The Glossy Life. We both love the neon paint stripe!

+ loved reading all your suggestions about what your perfect coat would entail. I think I have settled on a camel color in a richer tone (like this), hidden button placket, slit pockets lined in something super warm, a standing collar (this one is great), and a few other fun details that I literally have up my sleeve. I promise I’ll document the process — I think it’ll be fun to see the project come to life!

+ had way too much fun watching all the good trashy reality TV that made its way back onto the airwaves. The Bachelor? Anyone? I have been trying in vain to incorporate the phrase “bumski” into my vocab this week. Maybe I shouldn’t admit that.

+ want to remind you to enter the Lulu & Georgia gift card giveaway! That $300 has to go to someone…might as well be you! It closes this Sunday night, so hop to it.

+ discovered what’s probably my new fave restaurant in SF, after the lovely ladies at Glam dragged me to the Mission (where I’m the first to admit, I hardly EVER go). Locanda. If you’re a local, try it, love it.

link of the week

You guys left me some amaaaazing blogs to check out last week. I added several to my Google Reader! One of my absolute favorites was the blog I Believe in Strangers. It’s like a PostSecret but with short anecdotes about the goodness that still exists out there. Totally uplifting if you’re having one of those days when you just need your faith in humanity restored.

question of the week

So I actually really enjoyed hearing from so many people last week about their favorite blogs, and thought that each Friday, in addition to a link, I could ask a question. Some weeks they’ll probably be silly and simple, some weeks maybe more in depth. I thought I’d steal a page from many other bloggers’ books and kick off this mini-feature with this question: Who are you? Where are you from, where do you live now, what do you do, who are you in love with, what’s your favorite TV show, band, thing to eat, thing to do, place to go? Really, that’s quite A LOT of questions, but I see so many of the same faces names around here, and I’d love to learn more about each of you! And to the sweet readers who don’t normally comment — I say today, go for it.

And, as always, have a wonderful weekend, friends!

Brand new reader for 2013 here (and loving it)! I’m a PhD student in social psychology currently on the job market because I’ll finish my degree May-ish! I’m 26 and live with my husband and our pet rabbit in Northampton, MA but will be moving over the summer if (when!) I get a job. I can’t wait to decorate a new home when I have a decent salary! No fave TV shows because I’m a total TV junkie and can’t pick one!

I’m an illustrator but you already know that :). You may not know that your blog is seriously one of my favorites. Also that I am in love with my Swedish hunk Johan Torsten Valter, a Wine expert and he’s studying Fluid dynamics too (genius alert.)
We live in the cutest suburb of Stockholm called Aspudden. We hibernate in the winter but in the summer it’s the perfect neighborhood for picnics on the cliffs by the sea… plus it’s only 10 minutes from the city center.
If it were up to me I’d have a sweet little puppy like your Lucy, but Johan insists on having actual children instead. haha.
    Have a lovely weekend. xoxo

I’m enjoying your site, new follower as of a month or so ago. I’m originally from Ohio but live in Pennsylvania now. I work as a chemical engineer for an industrial gases company. I’ve been married just over two years and we have a pet bulldog, Henry. I am fairly indecisive so I have a hard time choosing a favorite anything. But at the moment I’m loving the show The Mindy Project and my favorite food would be anything with chocolate and peanut butter.
Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

You’re right – I’m totally one of those readers who lurks and never comments, but today will be different! :)

Who are you? My name is Sarah and I’m originally from Massachusetts, but I moved to Chicago for college and have stayed here ever since (and I LOVE it).

I work for a NFP downtown, but am looking to learn more and grow; I’d love to work in some kind of creative environment, but the truth is I have no idea “what I want to do”!

I’m in love with my husband, Ben.

I don’t have a ‘favorite’ TV show but past loves have been the Wire, the Sopranos, and Six Feet Under. Current loves are Downton Abbey, Sons of Anarchy, and (shamefully) Nashville (!! It’s like the best/worst soap opera. ;) )

I’m a big fan of Sharon von Etten’s music. Food: currently craving Thai Khao Soi and also Smitten Kitchen’s Sweet Potatoes with Goat Cheese and Pecans (divine!).

I love to bake, explore different cities/neighborhoods, go out to eat, spend time with friends and travel. You know, the usual things. ;)

hi! What a fun question. I’m from Scottsdale, AZ, but I live in Charlottesville, VA now, and in August, I’m moving to Newport Beach (where do you live/where are you from is a loaded question right now, ha!).

I do freelance social media consulting for small businesses/organizations, and I really love my job right now.

I’m in love with my husband Brett, he’s super-awesome.

in my free time, I blog, visit wineries nearby, eat out, and read a TON, and travel as much as I can. I love going to the gym or meeting friends for brunch, too.

Favorite TV show is Scandal or Revenge, thing to eat is kale pizza from True Foods and cupcakes from Babycakes.

What a fun little question to answer!

So, who am i? Well, I’m a blog stalker of yours that rarely comments on, but is always inspired by, your posts.

Where are you from – Texas, originally, but I went to college in Chicago and ended up staying there for 7 years before moving to California

where do you live now – San Francisco!!! We’re practically neighbors :)

what do you do – I’m a former-lawyer-turned-photographer trying to create a happy life for myself and my love

who are you in love with – The Boyfriend (aka Eric). We’ll be celebrating our 5-year anni this year!

what’s your favorite TV show, band, thing to eat, thing to do, place to go? – There’s almost too much to list here. Dexter, Real Housewives of any city, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Office (when Michael was still around), and almost every trashy reality tv show out there. Love all my many pandora stations and the ability to discover new music with the click of a button. Traveling, visiting NYC, daydreaming about Europe, and photographing all the pretty little things I see.

This is probably the longest comment I’ve ever left on a blog. :)

Eek good luck tomorrow!! Sounds so fun and I’m sure you’ll be great! Can’t wait to see the whole process behind your coat, too! :)

As for who I am…I grew up in SF until we moved to Hong Kong when I was 7, and have since lived in Massachusetts, England, and now NYC! I love some reality shows (like The Bachelor! This season looks nuts! Can’t wait! And like RHOBH and the new Vanderpump Rules…can’t resist. haha), and I love fashion and shopping and style. I’m a total girly girl. I work in the beauty industry (in corporate) and love the industry, but feel like I’m still trying to find the right job. I also love art and museums and reading. :)

I’m gonna answer too, although you know a bit about me already! I’m a Midwest gal (lived in the same town (and house!) all my life), now living in Eagle River, Alaska! I’m a stay at home wife to my military husband, trying to take advantage of all my time to write and blog and read (seriously, though, we can’t afford two cars). I am in love with my family and hubby Ethan and my baby Simon boy who I have serious issues leaving alone for more than twenty minutes. I rather enjoy watching What Not to Wear and competitions like Face Off and Project Runway. Don’t really have a favorite band, but if I could, I’d play the tambourine in ESMZ. French fries and ice cream are favorite foods, heaven help me! I love to read happy books, shop, and play ball with my Simon. And my favorite place to go would be home…but when I live there, I’d say Chicago…so many memories and such good food!!!!

How are you guys liking Alaska? I know we have

I was born in Anchorage! How are you enjoying living in AK?

  20. 1.11.13

I am so excited to see how your coat turns out – it sounds like you’ve got the perfect one picked out!

For your question (love this idea!)

I’m Lauren. Born and raised in Georgia (a peach!) and moved to San Francisco two years ago with my boyfriend, Mel/Melvin/M which also answers the “who are you in love with” question. By day, I work in marketing for a software/technology company. Proud member of the work at home club! By mid afternoon (I work East Coast hours) I’m blogging over at Seventeenth & Irving. Modern Family makes me laugh, and we’re currently working our way through Battlestar Gallactica on Netflix, which I never expected I would love, but I do. I guess that makes me a giant nerd. Band? Impossible to choose just one. I listen to a little bit of everything, but I’m always listening to music. My favorite place to go is one block up the street. I can see the Pacific. I suppose it takes living in a land locked city for 27 years to appreciate this little pleasure like I do.

I of course know you. :) But what you don’t know is that
your blog name always makes me a little jealous, bc
when I hear ’17th and Irving’ I then immediately think
’11th and Irving’ which is where San Tung and dry fried
      chicken are.

Joe works east coast hours too. Isn’t it the best??

  21. 1.11.13

I have totally been trying to work “bumski” into my vocab this week! I wondered if anyone caught that when she said it haha.

In response to your question of the week, I’m Suzy. I’m from Texas. I’ve moved about a million times because my dad works in the oil industry, but I always say I’m from College Station because I lived here for 9 years when I was younger and came back here to go to college at Texas A&M. I’m finishing school right now in College Station and live with my boyfriend and our puppy. I am crazy in love with the both of them and don’t know what I’d do without them!

Honestly, I have a lot of favorite TV shows. It’s getting pretty bad, especially since school has been on break for a month. I’m currently obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, SATC, Sons of Anarchy, Dexter, Breaking Bad, The Bachelor, The Kardashians, and Chelsea Lately. I don’t know why, but I just have a love for trashy reality TV. I guess I like to see the dumb things other people will do haha. My favorite band, hands down, is Death Cab for Cutie. I really love spaghetti and mashed potatoes, but not together. I love writing and being outside. Your last question is really hard because I just realized I have no idea where is my favorite place to go.

Love this post, btw! Such a great way to get to know your readers!

I’m currently loving Of Mice and Men, Taylor Swift and super excited about Justin Timberlake.
I’m addicted to twitter, instagram and pinterest. I love sushi, indian food (when it’s not too spicy) but if I love trying out new restuarants. My favorite place to go is anywhere on vacation. I love Hawaii, Las Vegas and Palm Springs. But new places are my escape.

Happy weekend, Victoria! Here’s my answers to your questions…

Who are you? Phoebe! I’m 25.

Where are you from? Dallas, originally

What do you do? I am a magazine editor…but I’m about to go back to school to get an MBA.

Who are you in love with? My boyfriend…we’ve been together for a little over 5 years.

What’s your favorite TV show? Of all time: Lost. But runners up include: Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Law & Order SVU, Criminal Minds

Band? I like laidback music, such as Jack Johnson and Ed Sheeran. I also like Chopin (the composer) a lot.

Thing to eat? I can’t pick. I love food. I am very unpicky.

Thing to do? Veg out! I like to do things that take little brainpower in my spare time. Like wandering around a city. Or shopping. Conversely, I really enjoy puzzles. Which I suppose use a lot of brainpower.

Place to go? Hit me up with the south of France ANYTIME. I’m thinking Loire Valley (more central, I suppose) and Provence. Not really the Riviera.

thing to eat? Oh goodness, where do I begin? Breakfast- greek yogurt and homemade granola, lunch- big salads or a killer sandwich filled with special aiolis and toppings on killer bread, dinner- in the winter I crave hearty stews and soups and takeout Indian, and dessert- anything and everything, but I can always go for a warm chocolate chip cookie topped with sea salt.
Thing to do? Veg out, read, cook, or go to the gym- my ultimate stress reliever
Place to go? Right now I’m itching for a winter getaway to the Turks and Caicos!

    Hi Victoria!

Who are you? I’m also Victoria and I’ve commented a few times and we’ve even tweeted at each other before (@picatoria).

Where are you from? I was born in Anchorage, AK! I lived there until I was 11 when we moved to Naples, Florida. I went to college in St. Louis, MO and then moved back home to Naples after I graduated.

Where do you live now? I just bought a house in Estero, FL (north of Naples) with my fiancé.

What do you do? I finished a job as office manager of a graduate school on Friday and I start a new Administrative Assistant job on Monday in the financial sector! I also own a photography business (Loving Care Photography).

Who are you in love with? My fiancé! We are getting married on April 6 and I am so excited! He is a sweetheart who works in the financial sector and loves all things sports, food, and drink!

What’s your favorite TV show? I never used to watch a lot of tv, but I do now! One of my all-time favorites is Battlestar Galactica. But I currently love Big Bang Theory, Walking Dead, Mad Men, Downton Abbey, Parks and Rec, and The Mindy Project.

Band? I love Michael Jackson! Always and forever! Honestly, I don’t listen to music all that often. I do listen to the radio to and from work, but I am so bored of the pop music and am looking to start listening to audiobooks instead. If I can dance to it (which is anything – I dance to the Dexter theme song lol) then I like it!

Thing to eat? Sushi! And Thai food! And I’m a big fan of snacking on chips and cheese.

Thing to do? Dance! Take photos! Read! Veg out! Decorate my new house!

Place to go? I’m a total homebody so I love being at home. But I still do love traveling and am so excited for my honeymoon to Italy! The food! The wine! I just love Europe in general even though I haven’t been to much of it. I am dreaming of it all!

Hi Victoria! I’ve been a follower for awhile, but a sporadic commentor.

Where are you from – Oklahoma!
Where do you live now – Berkeley
What do you do – Working on my Ph.D. in Immunology at UC Berkeley
Who are you in love with – Besides my boyfriend that would definitely be my sister Ashley and 4-month old niece Rylee, and my fur-daughter (a Westier) Chloe
What’s your favorite TV show & band – Currently loving (tv) Chicago Fire & (bands) Macklemore, Grouplove, The Lumineers
Thing to eat – Ooooh man probably sushi! I love lots of food though
Thing to do – Either read books or go exploring the Bay Area and Napa/Sonoma
Place to go – I’d probably say LA because that’s where my boyfriend lives but for a true vacation that’d be D.C! For some reason I’m obsessed with D.C.

Hi Victoria – what a fun thing to get to know people on the web! I’m from the SF Bay Area and I’m in the wine biz while also having fun blogging. I’m in love with my husby. I have lots of favorites, mostly having to do with mint (the color and flavor), cheese puffs, Real Housewives, laughing with friends over coffee, etc. Looking forward to more Qs from you!

This is a really cool idea, I love this question of the week addition! I’ve been reading your blog for well over a year now (god how time flies), and I seriously love it.
I’m a mechanical engineer from Canada, but I live and work in Melbourne Australia now with my boyfriend, who I met in Canada in 2011.
Because engineering can be kind of boring, I also started a blog in 2011, semi inspired by yours (I love it so much!).
I eat way too much peanut butter, bake way too many cupcakes, and am a total reality tv junkie (I miss the great prime time tv shows back in north america…). Also I’m trying to get more into photography (for my blog as well as for memories to send home, or frame and hang in my apartment), and golf!
Happy 2013, looking forward to another year of vmac+cheese :)

    Hey Victoria (and readers!)

I’m Julia, I live in Vancouver, Canada and I manage an art gallery. I am in love with my boyfriend, Tony (8 years this Feb!) & my fave TV shows are Homeland, Mad Men, Grey’s Anatomy & Game of Thrones. My fave bands are Radiohead, Dave Matthews & Bon Iver. I love to eat pretty much anything, but pasta in particular! I love spending time with loved ones, looking at art, and organizing things (seriously!). My favourite places to go are those that are hot and sunny!
