Big time style confession: up until this fall, I hadn’t purchased a pair of leggings. My own personal style is pretty classic, simple, and I am not one to jump on trends right away (another good example: I didn’t buy a pair of skinny jeans until like 2007 or 2008 — at least two years after they became a thing!).
It’s been nice layering leggings under skirts and dresses. It really is like secret pajamas. However, the lone pair I own are from The Gap, and while they’re super comfortable, they’re a bit thin. I wouldn’t mind finding another pair that are a little thicker, so I don’t run the risk of, um, revealing too much.
So, I’m turning to you guys, as I’m sure you’ll be able to set me straight. Do you have a favorite pair of leggings? Where are they from? And what do you like best about them? Help!

David Lerner leggings are the BEST! They’re super comfy and thick enough to cover your legs from the bitter cold. Definitely give those a try :)

I ADORE these leggings from Zara – http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/us/en/zara-us-W2011/122013/432543/BASIC%2BLEGGINGS
I love them so much that I have them in all 3 colors. Can’t beat the price, they have a great really wide elastic waistband with these side panel type things. They fit a little higher on the waist and smooth you out really well. They’ve held up to machine washing. Slightly heavier weight and they have a cute seam down the front. I highly recommend these guys!
My favorite leggings are from American Apparel! Thick enough so no one can see your booty through them, but don’t feel heavy!
I am loving reading all of these suggestions- let me know if you find any that you love! I’m trying to buy as many leggings and tights as possible to make some of my summer pieces work in the winter.
haha they ARE like secret pyjamas. Perfect description
My girlfriend just purchased the leggings from lulu. They’re pricy, but they suck everything in in the best way possible. I think I’m going to have to make the investment
I live in my J.Crew pixie pants – they feel like thicker leggings but look acceptable to wear at the office. The gold zipper is so sassy and cute – they look great with EVERYTHING!
If you’re just looking for basic everyday run-around leggings I also love my gap body leggings – the workout kind. Their definitely workout leggings though – I don’t think I would ever try to wear them with non-athletic gear!
xx
Definitely the Lululemon leggings (I think they’re called Wunder Under) – my friends and I call them the Magic Leggings because you lose 10 lbs when you put them on! Pricey, but SO WORTH IT!
My sister raves about her american apparel winter leggings, they’re really thick and warm
I would have to agree with some people about American Apparel. They are not too thick though but pretty comfy. My favorite leggings are from H&M. I think from the divided line (red tag inside). They are thick and feel more substantial. Only $13!
I have some thick leggings from Loft that I really love, but they do feel a bit thicker than I’d like. I’m thinking about taking the suggestions from above and heading to lululemon!
I got a great pair from BCBG almost 2 years ago and I live in them – they are thicker, and have a thick top waistband that makes it perfect for no muffin top & smooths everything out (I think that’s unintentional but that’s my favorite part of them) – I think they still sell them I know they sold them again this past fall!
love reading the recs here! i could use a pair that make me lose 10 lbs! i know lululemon workout pants do that for me so perhaps they have leggings I can wear everywhere?!
This is a perfect post for me as I have yet to find a thick enough legging that doesn’t reveal my derriere.
Mine are from American Apparel, BUT I have heard amazing things about Spanx leggings (and that they don’t look or feel like Spanx.)
I’m not much help here, but I loved your readers recommendations!! Leggings are my go to for all these big holiday feasts! xoxo
Zella leggings at Nordstrom! They are in the athletic department but they are still a wearable everyday material.
I’ve been converted to the Jegging all the way!
While I was pregnant with my second, I lived in them day in & day out. This may sound totally ghetto, but I found my favorite pair (non-maternity) at Walmart (LEI brand) for $10. They have a nice wide waistband, feel more substantial than regular leggings & can be worn under dresses/tunics or alone with a shorter top. They had pockets in the back which was way nice.
Also, you can find leggings & jeggings at Shade. the leggings are a lot thicker: http://www.shadeclothing.com/shop/dept_category.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374306256542&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395917465&bmUID=1323815959269
LOVE the quality of clothing found at Shade.
I could live in leggings…and my saturday pants from jcrew!
No leggings?!? That’s like all I wear this time of year. And not because I’m like so cool, but because they’re cheap and warmer to put on that jeans. I usually even wear them under jeans when I opt for the jeans. Mine are from Zara, H&M, Target, Forever 21. They do get thin fast though, so I usually buy in bulk. And double ’em up sometimes.
My thickest leggings are from LOFT, but my new favorite leggings are actually from Target because the elastic on the waist is flat and about 2 inches wide so it doesn’t make any lumps. Plus, they were $8!
