This past weekend, despite the cold and a bit of rain, we had a great time up in Napa. I honestly don’t think there’s a bad time of year to visit Northern California wine country, but I have to say, if you don’t mind the cooler temps, Napa in autumn is spectacularly beautiful. The trees and vines all change color, and they were definitely putting on a show.
We had a quick lunch at Bouchon Bakery (which ended a little abruptly, as the bird situation there is out of control, and to know me is to know my intense phobia of birds). After a lot of squawking (yeeeah, me, not the birds) and totally causing a scene, Joe had the good sense to take me on a walk around Yountville so I could mellow out and enjoy the autumn foliage.
[Sidenote: if you’re ever with me and birds appear in our general vicinity, you have FULL permission to point and laugh. I’ve been told it’s pretty entertaining.]

We snagged a quick glass of wine at Bottega (enjoyed on their outdoor patio, next to a ROARING fire, what what), then headed over to Sequoia Grove to pick up our wine.
After another glass there, a stop at Sawyer to pick up a couple bottles of this deliciousness, and a detour to a questionable Mexican food joint for quesadillas and margs (because what goes better with red wine than that?), we finally called it a day.
I’m soooo happy it’s a short week! Our Thanksgiving menu has been planned and it’ll be busy getting it all together, but I CAN’T WAIT.
What did you do this weekend?
