The Perfect Loft

There’s an old clocktower building here in San Francisco that years ago was completely renovated and is now filled with the most gorgeous lofts. Each one is different, but all retain some of the old touches from the building as it once was: exposed brick, lots of beams soaring across the ceilings, huge arched windows that let light pour into the space. And boy, am I a sucker for that light. I could never live in a space that didn’t have abundant natural light — it’s the greatest feature you can give a home, in my opinion!

So when I came across these photos of Devon Radziwill’s SoHo loft, I was smitten. There’s a lot here that reminds me of apartments I’ve seen in the clocktower building (we still check almost every month to see if a unit in our price range becomes available).

OMG. Twelve, count ’em TWELVE Victoria ghost chairs surrounding a beautiful, structural dining table. I think I could handle hosting a dinner party here. And also — THOSE WINDOWS.

I absolutely love how simple and clean this bedroom looks. The linens are perfection. Don’t you just want to dive into that bed? I imagine snuggling here on a Sunday morning with coffee (and that light) would be the most peaceful thing ever.

K, I’m all set. Floor to ceiling bookcases surrounding my office slash blogging space? Good to go, thanks. The only things I might add would be a colorful rug of some sort, and some framed artwork nailed to some of the shelves. I happen to really like that look.

One thing I like about loft spaces like this is that the scale of all the furniture goes up, and that also means you have a little more room to display things. I think this coffee table, which can fit a HUGE number of design books, is really awesome. And no way would this work in any living room other than a loft’s!

What do you think? Could you live here?

Tons of natural light is all bubbles and sunshine until it’s so hot in your living room that your a/c can’t keep up and it’s a constant 80 degrees. Ah, the joys of living in Texas… :) However, I doubt that happens in SF and you should totally get a wall of windows.

OMG I need that coffee table. Is it ok even though I definitely don’t live in a loft? I love the idea of displaying my coffee table books without actually cluttering the coffee table!

I would move in immediately! I lived in loft once with floor to ceiling windows and I refer to that time as the good old days.
