I think I first discovered Kat Tanita’s blog With Love From, Kat through a comment she had left somewhere. I was immediately smitten with her inspiring outfit posts — girl has great style! But I also came to love her daily round-ups of interiors, fashion images and entertaining ideas. Kat recently moved to Manhattan and is busy settling in, so I was thrilled that she could participate in BEHIND THE SCENES today. Be sure to check out her blog as she begins chronicling her life in the Big Apple. I have a hunch we’ll see great things from her!
Name and age: Kat Tanita, 22
Your Blog: With Love From, Kat
Current City: New York City
Five places I want to visit in my lifetime Tokyo because I have long lost family members living just outside Tokyo that I would love to meet. And being half Japanese I really just must go there! Paris because hello its Paris. I want to do allll of the touristy things; Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, eating croissants and strolling around the city arm in arm with my love. Greece because I love the culture and architecture. It’s a photographers heaven with the gorgeous blue ocean and crisp white houses in the background. St. Barths because I’ve just always wanted to go there. After reading about it in Gossip Girl books and working at one of my favorite stores which was started in St. Barths, Calypso, I think I would really love the tropical island. Barcelona because I never got to study abroad there and experience the life and culture. The people, the history, the language is all so intriguing.
Four books I want to read in the next year The Castaways by Elin Hildebrand (one of my favorite authors, her other book Blue Bistro is a must read); Summer and the City by Candace Bushnell; Something Blue by Emily Giffin; and The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.
Three photos that exemplify what I want my life to look like in 5 years:
I’d like to be doing a lot traveling to romantic, hidden places with my longtime boyfriend.
I hope to be doing everything written here.
I hope to be extremely successful and have a big office at a fashion house or fashion magazine.
Two goals I’m currently working on Goal #1: I’ve been working on getting sponsors for my blog. I have been corresponding with some great companies and hope to get them on board as sponsors by the end of the summer. Goal #2: I am so excited to be working on a guest post for one of my favorite design blogs. I am hoping that it will turn into me being a regular contributing editor.
One thing I’ve been dreaming about is… I have SO many dreams! One of the quotes I live by is Thoreau, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams, live the life you’ve imagined.” One of my dreams is to have my blog featured in a magazine, like Lonny Magazine. I would love to share my inspirations with an even larger audience.
How did your blog get its name? There are so many great blog names out there, but I wanted mine to be personal. My blog reflects me and my taste so I felt that With Love From, Kat was very fitting.
Who serves as a source of inspiration for you? Magazines, Twitter, Pinterest, and other blogs are all great sources to me. I am also inspired by things in my everyday life. I love driving around neighborhoods and noticing the architecture and details that make a house charming. I love walking by a chic girl in the street and noticing how she styled her outfit. I love trying new restaurants and recreating the food at home.
What is your proudest achievement to date? My proudest achievement is picking up and moving across the country all by myself. I grew up in Arizona and was getting too comfortable and had such a routine going, I knew I needed to change and grow, and follow my dreams of moving to NYC and working in the design industry. It hasn’t been easy, but it has been SO worthwhile and I’m a better person for stepping outside my comfort zone and adapting to this crazy, yet amazing city life!
Where is your favorite place to rest and re-charge? Cape Cod. I grew up going to Cape Cod every summer to see my mom’s side of the family and it was the absolute best place to relax. We rode bikes, went on long walks, and took the ferry over to Nantucket.
When did you first start blogging why do you keep doing it? I started blogging 6 months ago, but it seems like I’ve been doing it much longer. I blog everyday, if not twice or three times a day, because it’s fun. Pure and simple, it’s fun for me. I have always been an extremely creative person and I enjoy sharing pretty things with my friends and followers and hopefully inspiring them!
Glad to be introduced to another new blogger/ blog! Love that you are setting specific goals for growing your blog and can’t wait to see them come to fruition!
