Happy Wednesday, everyone! For today’s BEHIND THE SCENES, I’m pleased to introduce you to Kate, author of the blog DomestiKated Life! I started reading Kate’s blog in the early part of this year. Or was it last fall? It’s hard to remember a time when her daily updates on style, fashion, interiors, travel and pop culture were NOT a daily must read for me! Kate’s an artistic gal with a great eye, so after you learn more about her here, be sure to pop over to her blog and say hi!
Name and age: Kate, 26
Your Blog: DomestiKatedLife
Current City: Boston
Five places you want to visit in your lifetime…
Paris. Specifically, I would like to spend a nice big chunk of time wandering the Paris Flea Market, snacking on macaroons. What a dream come true that would be!
Italy. I’m a bit of a pasta-holic, I’d like to visit the homeland of my favorite carbohydrates.
London. I’d love to go to London and be a super-tourist, riding double-decker buses, snatching up Kate and Wills memorabilia, and posing for pictures outside Buckingham Palace with the guards.
San Francisco. This is probably my most attainable destination; I see so many fabulous pieces of San Francisco through many of my favorite blogger’s eyes — I’d love to see it myself someday!
Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. I spent some time in Australia during college and have never had so much fun in my life. I’d love to go back some day and discover parts of it I didn’t get to see like the Great Barrier Reef.
4 books I want to read in the next year I just purchased Holly Becker’s Decorate and I can’t wait to dive into all of the interior inspiration. Another book on my wish list is American Fashion Designers At Home, I love seeing the influence of fashion on interior design. And I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Design*Sponge book. And I just finished reading, Summer at Tiffany. It’s such a feel good story about two best friends in the mid-1940s who move to New York and become the first women to ever work at Tiffany & Co. — it’s a perfect beach read!
3 photos that exemplify what I want my life to look like in 5 years These pictures embody how I see my life in a few years; working hard, celebrating the everyday, and finding new ways to be creative.
2 goals I’m currently working on Growing my blog! I’m trying to keep growing my blog by sticking with it even when I hit those writers blocks, searching for inspiration, and posting often to make it the best little blog it can be. Another goal I have is to learn Photoshop and more of the features on my camera so that I can improve my pictures and offer better content on my site.
One thing I have been dreaming of lately is finding more time to dedicate to creative pursuits. When I was in high school I was never without my sketchbook, I lived for my painting classes, and in college I took art classes too. After I graduated I didn’t have as much time to dedicate to painting and drawing and it’s something I’m aspiring to get back into again.
How did your blog get its name? DomestiKatedLife is a play on my name, Kate, and it just sort of came to me when I was brainstorming names for my blog. I wanted something that would exemplify what the blog was about, and at the end of the day the blog is really about me and my style and design aesthetic, so it worked.
Who serves as a source of inspiration for you? I get lots of inspiration from the web; I read hundreds of blogs and could spend hours on Pinterest. But then I also get a lot of inspiration off-line too. I’m always tearing sheets from magazines, bookmarking design books, and I also look to my friends and my sister for inspiration too.
Where is your favorite place to rest and re-charge? I recharge best when I’m around people I love. Drinking wine and gossiping with my girlfriends on the porch or trying a new restaurant with my boyfriend — those are the things that give me a boost.
When did you first start blogging, and why do you keep doing it? I started blogging in February 2009, it seems crazy that it was that long ago! I keep doing it because it’s what I love. It still remains the creative outlet today that it was two and a half years ago, and everyday it brings me something new, an opportunity, a connection, inspiration.
It sounds like I’ve just found another kindred spirit (c: I always enjoy the peek into a blogger’s head!
I just found your site through Kate’s blog and am so happy to have found it! I love these sort of behind the scenes features!
