Behind the Scenes with My Cup of Te!

Today I’m excited to host Roxy from the lovely blog My Cup of Te. I discovered Roxy’s blog earlier this year, and simply adore her daily takes on life, interiors and style (I think you’ll love her cute weekend recaps!). Roxy has been especially busy lately with the launch of her own home furnishings line, Society Social, which launches this August. And given her fabulous taste, I can’t wait to see what those bar carts look like. Take it away, Roxy!

Name and age: Roxy, 27

Your Blog: My Cup of Te

Current City: We’re in the process of moving to somewhere very exciting, but we’re not quite ready to share yet, so you’ll just have to stay posted ;)

A photo shoot I styled for my blog!

5 places I want to visit in my lifetime:

Giraffe Manor in Nairobi. Can you believe this is a real place? It’s a boutique hotel built in the 1930’s with a resident herd of Rothschild giraffes! They roam about intermingling with guests. Insane cool points.

I’m dying to go to Brazil for the FIFA World Cup in 2014. It would be brilliantly crazy. (photo via Mrs.Lilien)

Morocco. I can almost see the vibrant colors and smell the exotic spices at the bazaars. I would feel quite at home here floating about in my Society Social kaftans!

Thailand. My husband is half Thai, and I would love to go exploring together!

Santorini, Greece. Everything about Greece seems so magical.

4 books I want to read in the next year:

Will you take my wish list? I’m on a cookbook and coffee table chic kick! 1. The Emilio Pucci Taschen limited edition. Each book is wrapped in a Pucci scarf! 2. Decorate by Holly Becker is on its way to becoming a classic must-have 3. The Real Simple Cookbook because you gotta love Martha 4. Roald Dahl’s cookbook. So rad that he has one, right? All his books were childhood favorites, and I’d love to take a peek into his family recipes over 3 generations!

3 photos that exemplify what I want my life to look like in 5 years:

I’ve always dreamt of living in a brownstone in NYC’s West Village. I know I have to work really hard to make it happen, but I don’t doubt I can do it! (Photos via SFGirlbyBay when she stayed at Joanna Goddard’s Home in the West Village}

2 goals I’m currently working on (and what I’m doing to get there):

My darling husband is always very supportive of my dreaming big disposition, if you will. :)  2009 was personally hard for me so to help me get back on the right track, he gave me this bottle of champagne for New Year’s. Together we listed out my goal, and I think I’m about two weeks away from being able to pop it!

I’m starting the design process for a capsule collection of home accents for someone quite extraordinary and over-the-top fun! We’ll announce the collaboration at the end of July, and I can’t wait to share!

1 thing I’ve been dreaming about is…

Taking a small group of my closest family and friends on a grandiose vacation! It would be beyond my wildest dreams to be able to give the people I care about the most an amazing trip and memories for a lifetime!

My college roommates and I exploring our new “campus”, NYC! We stopped for a photo at this stoop because of the message above the doors.

How did your blog get its name?

It all started with a project in my color theory class at Parsons. We had to create a small composition out of our pantone color chips that represented who we are. I cut out different shapes from my pantone stash and pieced them together to form “My Cup of Te.”

Who serves as a source of inspiration for you?

My parents! They started with nothing and have built a wonderful life for themselves and my family. They are living proof that hard work can get you anywhere.

What is your proudest achievement to date?

I’m launching my own business in August! It’s called Society Social, and I’ve designed everything from crazy fun bar carts to over the top kaftans for the frolicking kind of lifestyle ;)

Courtney Apple of Courtney Apple Photography and Beka of Styled Creative at the official shoot! They were a dream to work with!

Where is your favorite place to rest and re-charge?

This may sound crazy, but I love de-stressing at the gym. There’s nothing like working up a good sweat to help you regain focus and straighten out your priorities.

When did you first start blogging, and why do you keep doing it?

I escaped my cubicle!

I think this excerpt from my blog’s “Live Sparkly” page says it all:

Life is entirely too precious to be unhappy and after a two year stint in the corporate world at a fashion buying job where people walked around like lives were being lost on the operating table (hello! Just clothes, people!), I stuck it to the man, peaced out on the stress, the endless number crunching where fashion was nowhere to be found, and set out to create a life worthy of my dreams. I started this blog right after escaping the soul-deadening doldrums of my claustrophobic cubicle, in hopes of re-discovering all I felt I had lost, the most vital parts of my true self, the living, breathing parts that make up me, and the parts that are unmistakably My Cup of Te.
